Socio-technical systems of investigative Intelligence as scientific response to traditional proposals.

As part of my research into intelligence doctrine models included within MDOCTRINE, the Interligare innovation program, I have achieved amongst other things to compile a classification of the less rigorous models and frameworks used in the production of intelligence.

The aforementioned classification and detailed below establishes three principal groups:

1. Episodic Intelligence. In this category we include those who use their past experience and accumulated patterns to lead the process to the discovery and judgement of reality. This approximation, which is loaded with potential bias and errors in cognitive processes, is commonly used by government Intelligence agencies and by consultancies who advocate their brand and expertise in diverse fields of knowledge.
2. Intuitive Intelligence. Within this category we include groups that use, as a starting point, intuition based on the cognitive structures present in long term memory as an investigation line in their search for the evidence that determines the reality of the analysed situation.
3. Speculative Intelligence. In this instance the intelligence production is lead by what would be defined as indemonstrable conjectures which are used to establish proofs which have no basis in reality, therefore manufacturing convenient visions of the same.

In the first two classifications, it is interesting to note, that the groups or persons which presented higher than average supposition abilities or percentages, which are still quite low and determine a way of managing their patterns and combine them with the recognition of reality. In this sense we have initiated an innovation program called NEO which intends to follow this approach.

On the other hand, evidence based Investigative Intelligence emerges as a rigorous and solid response with an ample field to be developed and as a principle contributor for turning the Intelligence discipline, within the science of management of human organizations, responsible for the processing and efficiency of the strategic information necessary for planning personal and corporate objectives and their fulfilment.

Investigative Intelligence, as a concept and process, represents the antithesis to the agencies which currently pervade in the industry and which with the appeal of the term Intelligence develop an imprecise and not at all solid focus, based on non consolidated or normalized concepts and proposals based in simplicity and immediateness as a paradigm of the simple in a setting which is by definition complex, as is recognizing the true reality of the facts in a real world domain. The efficient realization of investigative intelligence demands an investment in knowledge, organizational structures, technology and development time, it is absolutely necessary to define advanced socio-technical models and compact teams that can in due course recognize and deduce all the facts and the resident variables within an intelligence objective which is by definition an agent permanent in time of strategic threat or opportunity.
